What's one of the easiest ways to look your best?

I've been meaning to write this post for a while but other things kept cropping up and it just got moved down the list, which ties in well with this post, because in terms of dressing and looking stylish people often neglect their underwear and make other things a priority - just as I have with this post.

You see underwear is such an important element to looking good and how we feel about our outfit. Just imagine you have found the perfect dress, it hugs you in all the right places, the colour is perfect and you can wear it a multitude of ways, but then you put it on... your knickers are digging into your hips giving you ridges around your sides, your bum has lines down each cheek showing exactly where your underwear lies.  You're wearing your "comfy bra" which also happens to be an unpleasant shade of grey, the strap keeps slipping down and you may as well not be wearing it at all for all the support it is offering.  That perfect dress seems less than a perfect outfit now don't you think?

I can not tell you how many times I have hoicked the straps of a client to show her how much better a top or dress will look with the correct fitting bra and how often I hear "oh this is my comfy one, - I wear it all the time" arghhhh!

You see a lot of people don't realise the right fitting, and also the right style, of underwear can achieve a  lot of the things that people want from their clothes i.e. look taller, slimmer, bigger/smaller bust, flatter tum etc etc.

I'm going to talk about this a lot more in forthcoming posts, in fact I could dedicate a whole blog to it. Have you ever committed any underwear crimes and fancy sharing your experiences here?

The Devil's In The Details

I’m not being old fashioned when I say there are certain things that everyone can do to look polished and nicely put together.  It can apply to anyone regardless of your ‘type’ or what fashions you follow.  It also doesn’t have to involve spending hundreds of pounds or sitting in a salon chair for hours on end.

Have you ever looked at someone and thought how well groomed they looked?  And how effortless they make it?  Well it’s the small things that make the difference.  Here’s my quick guide as to what I think makes someone look groomed.  Feel free to get in touch if you think I’ve missed anything out.

All about the eye(brows)

Eyebrows are the frames of your face.  Nicely shaped eyebrows can really enhance your features and even take a couple of years off you, however, beware, over plucked brows can have the opposite effect, if in doubt get a professional to do it and then do the in-between maintenance yourself.  Threading is becoming a popular method of having your eyebrows shaped and I think gives a really nice shape to the brows.

Accessories

Don’t get fed up with me for going on about accessories, but they really do make an outfit.  They show that you have thought about what you’re wearing and can lift a drab outfit into something quite interesting.  You can use accessories to introduce a new colour to your outfit to achieve that effortless clashing style, or use them to bring the eye away from an area that you’re not that keen on.  Don’t forget your hair too; slides and clips can be used just to jazz up your look not necessarily to serve a purpose.

Nails

Keep your nails tidy.  Keeping your cuticles tidy and your nails an even length requires very little effort and can be done whilst watching TV.  As soon as your polish chips, take it off or keep the varnish in your handbag for emergency touch-ups.  Chipped nails just don’t look good and as well as that they look unhygienic.  When it comes to colour we think your fingernails and toenails should match unless you’re wearing a french polish but this is just our personal opinion.

Skin

Don’t neglect your skin; it’s so often overlooked in people’s beauty regime.  A couple of minutes spent in the bath or shower buffing your skin will help it look healthy, smooth and glowing.  This is also the perfect base to apply your fake tan.  Keep a lip balm in your bag to keep your lips kissably soft.  And don’t forget your feet, dry cracked heels are a sure fire way to ruin the look of your sandals.

Scaffolding

Or should I say underwear.  The right size and type of bra will make your boobs look perter, will make you look slimmer and protect your breast tissue from future sagging.  As well as all that, wearing the right size bra will make your clothes hang better.  Get yourself regularly measured and look after your bras properly.  Don’t forget your undies too, make sure they fit you properly and they are appropriate to what your wearing for instance avoid belly warmers under a pair of low rise jeans, or a black thong under white linen pants.

The Devil’s in the details

Don’t overlook the small details, such as clean shoes, or ironed clothes.  And even if you don’t have time to apply a full face of makeup, take time to apply tinted moisturiser and mascara.

Most importantly...

Hold your head high and smile!!
