Dressing in Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a difficult time in terms of clothes, style and dressing.  In a short space of time your body shape changes so dramatically month by month and my clients sometimes find this a difficult time to feel stylish.  Pregnant women can feel pigeon holed into dressing a certain way (thankfully dungarees are a thing of the past) they feel there’s a limited choice of shops stocking maternity wear, or they feel they lose their identity.

But this can in fact be an exciting time in terms of dressing, you may be forced to be more creative with your outfits and you never know you may find a whole new look emerge from this time with elements that you take into the future.

There is no getting away from the fact that you will have to buy some new clothes and you’re only going to wear them for a few months.  Make sure new purchases work hard for you, pregnant or not you need to consider your cost per wear, so buy wisely.  Take the time to plan your capsule wardrobe, consider all the different ways you can wear your new items.

  • Accessories – These are a great and inexpensive way to make a look your own or add a splash of colour to an outfit. They can also be worn after you have your baby.
  • Layers – use layers to create interest, keep them lightweight and again buy wisely, there is no need to buy specific maternity cardigans etc, choose a lightweight draping cardigan that you can wear after your baby is born.
  • Length – Pregnancy is not the time to show a bare midriff and avoid showing the elastic at the top of your trousers, jeans or skirts.
  • Underwear – Get measured regularly; ensure you have enough support this will help protect your bust from sagging in the future.
Please get in touch if you require any further help or advice for dressing in pregnancy.
